Tips on Buying Cars: backing out of used car purchase, car purchase, cori

Question
We purchased a used car last night.  My husband did sign all of the paperwork.  We ended up financing more than we anticipated.  We did leave the car on the lot to have a problem with the dash fixed and a dvd player installed.  Today the installed the dvd, but they say there is nothing wrong with the dash.  It is very obviously separating from the main console.  We have not picked it up yet.  Do we have any recourse considering they installed the dvd player at our request?  If we had known they would not fix the dash, we either would not have bought this van or would have used it as a bargaining tool to get a better deal.  We are in Indiana.

Answer
Cori,

Thanks for your question.  Since you have not taken delivery of the vehicle, you are not considered the legal owner.  Even if you have signed all the paperwork, and had work done to the vehicle, you are not considered the legal owner of the vehicle until you take delivery of the vehicle after you have signed all of the paperwork.  That is your recourse in this situation.

Hope this helps.

Thanks - JB
