Tires: Tire production date/age, dot code, tire production

Question
I have two sets of older Goodyear GT+4 tires. The all came with a '67 Vette I recently purchased. The only apparent date coding I can see, after the "DOT" notations read: "225" (on the 225/70R15's) and "508" (on the 215/65R15's. I don't see any 4-digit notations on any of them. Any idea of production dates on these older tires? Thanks very much,

Answer
S,

Here is what I wrote about DOT coding:

As you can see, most of what you wrote doesn't line up!  So let's start there.

And to be complete, you may need to look on the other side of the tires.

But what little you've told me, I think think the tires might be 1998's (or 1988's, or 1978's)

So let's be sure you have the DOT code and go from there.
