Tires: tire sizes, nissan sentra, tire sizing

Question
Barry, I may have asked you a question about tire sizing, but I need additional help as I am getting confused, from various opinions from tire dealers, as which way to go.

My present tire size on my 2001 nissan sentra se is p195/55r16 h- rated. There are not too many choices in that size.

I've been told that if I want to switch from my oe tires to another size I should either go to a p205/50r 16 tire or a p215/50r 16 either h or v rated.

I was thinking of going to a p205/55r16 h rated, but was told that it wouldn't be a good choice.

What would be my best choice if I switch from oe tires to a larger size?

Thanks for your advice.   Regards, Bob

Answer
Bob,

I prefer going larger in size whenever I can.  So I'm with you on the P205/55R16, provided you have enough room.  This is something you will have to check out for yourself.  Remember, the worst condition is fully compressed and fully turned.

Of the other choices I prefer the P205/50R16.  It fits a bit better on the rim, however it is a slight bit smaller in diameter.

Hope this helps.
