Trucking: trucking business, motor carrier number, florida department of transportation

Question
Hello Bob,
What is the best kind of trucking business (flatbed, dumpTruck, dumpTrailer,Box,etc) to get in to in the Bradenton Florida area (very close to you)? I am new to the trucking business, I just got my license about a month ago and we want to start our own business and I am restricted to the state of Florida for at least 3 years,(after which I can apply for a waiver for the hole county) because I have one eye that is weak and had to get a check up from the eye doctor! The NEW standards for Florida (as of Aug of last year) are 20/40 combined NOT 20/40 in each eye! Also once I get a truck I know I need to get a DOT# and a FL gas sticker but what is a MC#?

Answer
Hi Mark.

Florida has low paying loads, all things considered.  I think the best paying and most of the loads are flatbed.  That's what I pull a lot of.

You'll need a DOT number and a fuel (not gas) sticker.  MC stands for Motor Carrier number.  Contact the Florida Department of Transportation for everything you need.

Good luck!
