1999 Dodge Durango Recalls

The 1999 Dodge Durango had five different recalls on the truck as of October 2010, according to Carcomplaints.com. These recalls ranged from the engine to the suspension as well as the air bags. The Durango owner must take the truck back to the dealership to ensure these recalls are repaired.

Fuel Tank Strap

  • The fuel tank strap on the 1999 Dodge Durango has separated due to weakness or fatigue. The Durango has been recalled for this defect in order to replace this strap with a new single strap design that is stronger and prevents breakage. This defect can cause the fuel tank on the Durango to separate from the frame and fuel to leak out onto the exhaust, which can create a fire hazard. The trucks built from May 22, 1998 to September 25, 1999 need to be taken in for this recall repair. According to Repairpal.com, over 150,000 vehicles need this repair.

Engine Repair Recall

  • A fuel performance kit installed on some of the 1999 Dodge Durango has broken apart. This has resulted in a small piece of material to come off the kit and get into the throttle, causing the throttle to jam open. The recall for this problem is for Dodges manufactured from 1999 through 2004 and the fuel performance kit is installed on over 44,000 trucks. If the throttle of the Dugango jams open, it causes the truck to accelerate unexpectedly, making the Dodge jump forward uncontrollably.

Air Bag Recall

  • The Dodge Durango has been recalled for problems with the driver-side air bag becoming disabled because of a problem with part of the steering wheel becoming displaced. A small piece of material loosens, causing a break in the circuit that goes to the air bag located on the steering wheel which, in turn, disables the air bag. According to Carcomplaints.com, over 216,000 Dodge trucks were manufactured with this defect and need to be taken back to the dealership to get this repaired.

Seat Belt Recall

  • According to Repairpal.com, 161,682 Dodge vehicles, including the 1999 Durango, have been recalled because the seat belts do not meet regulations. The seat belt retractors need to be replaced. This defect means passengers could not be protected properly during an accident. Dodge trucks manufactured from December of 1998 through January of 1999 have this problem.

Brake Recall

  • A few 1999 Dodge Durangos were recalled because of a brake hub problem. Trucks with anti-lock braking systems (ABS) and two-wheel drive have a problem with the rear pilot of the rotor causing the truck to vibrate during braking. The rear wheels on the Durango can separate from the truck causing the operator to lose control.
