What Does Lx Mean on a Vehicle?

Cars come in a variety of editions, which vary based on their features. LX is the acronym for "luxury," and is usually found on vehicles that advertise premium comfort and high-end additions such as leather seats. However, LX does not always mean the same thing for every manufacturer.

Packages

  • LX can refer to the type of luxurious package that is available in a vehicle. Lexus has LX edition vehicles on the market. For example, the LX570 is a luxury sport utility vehicle that has a leather interior, Smart Access keyless entry system, push-start engine, built-in navigation system and rear view cameras. Such amenities are only offered in the LX edition.

Design

  • An LX vehicle model can also be indicative of a special exterior design. The Honda Civic LX, for instance, is not the highest model of luxury that Honda offers, but the LX has a design trim that makes it look different than the DX or EX sedans and coupes.

Considerations

  • While LX may be used to signify a specific luxurious package or design of a vehicle, standard or universal specifications do not exist for every type of LX car or SUV. Each manufacturer can choose what types of specs should be included in an LX edition.
