How to Lease a GMC

GMC leases are provided by General Motors Acceptance Corporation, which also handles the leasing for other divisions of GM. You can find out more about the monthly leasing programs on GMAC's website or inquire at any dealership. You also can find out all you need to know about the GMC you want to lease and complete the process at the dealership.

  • Go to GMC.com to view the current leasing specials, which change monthly, by clicking on "current offers." Or, learn more about the truck or SUV you want to lease by clicking on the vehicle from the lineup menu.

  • Enter your zip code under "locate a dealer" from the main page if you need addresses or phone numbers for GMC dealers in your area. Stop in during business hours, which you also can find from the dealer locate results.

  • Go to the dealership and state your leasing intentions to a GMC salesperson. Work with your salesperson to find the truck you want and have her fully explain the vehicle's features and details. Test-drive the GMC you like, and if the truck or SUV you drove meets your expectations, make sure it is the one you would lease.

  • Ask to see more vehicles if the GMC you test-drove is not the one you want. Work with your salesperson until you find one with the options and colors you like. Once you do, ask to see the leasing numbers on the vehicle.

  • Tell your salesperson how long you want to lease your GMC. Most leases provided by GMAC bank and advertised on the GMC website are for 39 months, but you can change the term to 36 months to stay within the bumper-to-bumper warranty period for a few more dollars a month.

  • Talk about mileage restrictions with your salesperson. GMC advertises a "low mile lease," typically 12,000 miles-per-year and under. Make sure you are comfortable with the yearly mileage allowance before proceeding. You can change the allowance to fit your needs.

  • Go over the numbers for your lease and fill out a credit application for GMAC leasing approval. Because GMC electronically submits your leasing application, the approval is almost instant. Decide on a time to pick up your new car.

  • Sign all state motor vehicle paperwork and the GMAC leasing contract with your dealer. Your salesperson will set up your insurance with you---a full coverage policy is required---and supply your plates.
