How to Get My MVR Report From Alabama

In Alabama, the Alabama Department of Public Safety and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency oversee the management of driving records, also called motor vehicle records. You can request three types of records in person: your three-year history; your driving abstract, which is your complete driving history; and another person's three-year record. You can also request your three-year record and another person's three-year record through the mail. Use the Request for Motor Vehicle Record to get someone else's three-year record; the Request for Individual Driver Abstract when requesting your own driving abstract; and the Driving Record Request to get your own three-year record.

In-Person

  • The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency lists all offices on its website so you can find the one nearest you. Fill out the corresponding form for the type of record you need and pay the fee. As of 2015, the full driver abstract costs $15, while the three-year history costs $5.75. All are payable by cashier's check, certified check or money order. You must show a valid photo ID to get your driving abstract.

Through the Mail

  • To get your three-year record through the mail, download and print out the appropriate form from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency website. Fill it out with your name, address, date of birth, driver's license number and Social Security number. Mail it in to the address provided on each form, along with the necessary payment. The form requesting someone else's driving record requires you to provide that person's name, address, date of birth, driver's license number and Social Security number, as well as your own name, address, phone number and line stating who you represent and why you are requesting the other party's record.
