How to Turn Off the Back-Up Warning on a Ford Taurus

The Ford Taurus has a long and storied history. Originally introduced in 1986, the Taurus underwent several redesigns over the years before it was discontinued in 2006. In 2008, Ford decided to revive the Taurus nameplate, renaming the Ford Five-Hundred sedan "Taurus." For the 2010 model year, the Taurus was redesigned. One of the available features on the redesigned Taurus is the rear park aid or "back-up warning." The system beeps to warn you when you get too close to an object. This feature is customizable; you can disable it if desired.

  • Crank the engine and leave your Taurus in "Park."

  • Locate the message center controls to the right of your steering column. Press the "Setup" button repeatedly until the odometer display reads "Rear Park Aid."

  • Hold the "Reset" button on your message center control until the system beeps. The rear park aid display will show "Off," and the system will be deactivated. To reactivate the system, repeat the procedure. The display will change from "Off" to "On."
