According to the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, "If you commit a serious traffic violation or several violations that are less serious, you may lose your driving privilege." This is true with most states, and is a major reason why you should know the rules & regulations of driving.

  • Wear a seat belt at all times. Most states now require each person to wear a seat belt while in a motor vehicle.

Speed Limit

  • Do not exceed the speed limit. You will incur 3 points on your license for going just one to 10 miles over the speed limit.

  • Keep your car insurance, registration and inspection up to date. Not only can you incur unnecessary fees, but you can also lose your license if these are not kept current.

Warning

  • Don't drink and drive. A first offense of blood alcohol content of just .08 can land you in jail for up to one year.

  • In the event of an accident, never leave the scene. This even applies to parked cars. You must search for the owner.
