How to Replace a Fan Control in a Jeep

The fan control panel in a Jeep regulates the climate control system in the vehicle. When this panel fails, you won't be able to use the heat or air conditioning correctly, which may make for an uncomfortable driving experience, particularly in a Jeep with a soft top. To remedy this problem, you'll need to replace the defective fan control panel. This should take about 20 minutes and will require just a few basic tools.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips-head screwdriver
  • Replacement fan control panel
  • Sit in the driver's seat. Locate the bezel around the radio and fan control panel in the middle of the dashboard. Pull the panel off of the dashboard with your hands to release the clips holding it in place.

  • Unscrew the fan control panel from the dashboard with the Phillips-head screwdriver. Pull the panel out from the dash. Then, disconnect the vacuum harness on the back of the fan control panel with your hands. Unplug the wiring harness with your hands as well. Discard the defective fan control panel.

  • Reconnect the vacuum harness and wiring harness to the back of the replacement fan control panel with your hands. Screw the replacement fan control panel to the dashboard using a Phillips-head screwdriver.

  • Push the dash bezel that you removed in Step 1 back onto the dashboard to lock the clips in place.
