How to Remove a Passenger Rear Door Panel on a 2006 Nissan Sentra

At first glance, it might seem as though a car's rear door panels are easier to remove than the front door panels, because they usually have less equipment. However, this is not the case. Although the rear panels generally contain fewer components (such as power mirror controls), the rear panels are often formed into an awkward position, making it difficult to fully access them without opening the rear door wide. This is especially true of a compact car like the 2006 Nissan Sentra.

Things You'll Need

  • Pliers
  • Flat head screwdriver
  • Shop towel
  • Door clip tool
  • Turn the engine off and set the parking brake for safety. Open the hood and unhook the negative battery cable (--) before handling the door panel electrical parts (Sentra models equipped with power windows only).

  • Open the rear door to gain full access to the panel. Wrap the tip of a flat head screwdriver in a small shop towel. The Nissan factory service manual recommends this to prevent damage to the door finishers and trim panels.

  • Pry off the finisher from the door pull handle with the flat head screwdriver. Remove the two Phillips head screws behind the finisher.

  • Pry off the power window switch from the rear. The front part has a small hook in it. When it comes loose, pull it up from the rear, then pull it back to release the hook. Unplug the wiring harness beneath the switch.

  • Pry off the finisher surrounding the interior door handle. Set this piece aside.

  • Insert the door clip tool behind the panel. Push the handle of the tool back to pop out the door clips (six clips mount the panel). Lift the door panel up, then pull it away from the door.

If you don't have a door clip tool, use your hands to carefully pull sections of the panel away from the door. (This will disengage the clips, but increases the chances of damaging the clips.)
