Chevy Silverado Speedometer Problems

The speedometer on your vehicle is a device that shows how fast your vehicle is moving. Sometimes these devices can become faulty, causing the needle to spin out of control or become stuck. Chevy Silverados may experience speedometer problems.

Recalled Speedometers

  • If you are having problems with your Chevy Silverado speedometer not working this could be due to a faulty speedometer on some models of the truck. A recall was issued, for example, on 2003 Chevy Silverado models for problems with the speedometer. Speedometers on these models were repaired or replaced.

Speedometer Won't Move

  • A Chevy Silverado speedometer problem can include a speedometer that doesn't move. The needle of the speedometer can stay stuck at zero or be constantly fixed at another point of the meter. This is often due to a faulty electronic needle in the speedometer. If you have this problem, take it to a repair shop to have it fixed or you can inexpensively replace the speedometer.

Speedometer Spins Out of Control

  • If your speedometer spins out of control, it is probably due to a bad speedometer head. Call your dealer for warranty information or recalls; if there are none, have a mechanic look at the speedometer to fix the problem.
