How do I Install an Exterior Door Handle on a Mercedes C240?

A damaged exterior door handle on your Mercedes C240 can be an annoyance, as it means you will no longer be able to open, or securely close the door. Not only does this put your Mercedes at a higher risk of being stolen, it makes it much more difficult for you to get passengers into your car. If this problem occurs, you should pick up a replacement door handle from your local auto store and install it immediately.

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver set
  • Open the damaged door from inside the vehicle.

  • Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the screws from the handle and the trim, on the inner door panel. Lift them both away from the door. Put the screws in a safe place, as you will need them later.

  • Reach into the space left by the removed door panel, and locate the two linkage arms. These are part of the door handle assembly. Unhook the two arms and lift them out of the door.

  • Remove the rest of the door handle assembly from the door. This includes pulling the exterior door handle away from the vehicle. Discard the damaged handle.

  • Place the new exterior door handle on the outside of the door. Reattach the linkage arm, and the rest of the door assembly -- following the removal steps in reverse. Once the work is completed, check to make sure the door handle works correctly.
