How to Remove a Camry's Window Motor

If the door window of your Toyota Camry is not working properly or not moving at all, you'll need to remove the window motor to fix it. The window motor and regulator assembly is located inside the door panel; access it by removing just a few parts on the door. Removing the Camry window motor is a job you can complete in about an hour, saving you time and money.

Things You'll Need

  • Open-end wrench
  • Pry tool
  • Screwdriver
  • Nut driver
  • Socket-wrench set
  • Lower the window all the way down on the door from which you are removing the motor. If the window will not go down, you can still remove the window motor from the door frame without any trouble. Unfasten the negative battery cable of the Toyota Camry from the battery post with an open-end wrench to avoid electric shock while removing the window motor. The negative battery post has a (-) sign next to it with a black battery cable attached to the post. The positive battery cable is red with a (+) sign next to the post.

  • Detach all the plastic panels on the door panel by hand to gain access to the screws. Lift the control switch panel up gently from the door panel with a pry tool and disconnect the electrical wiring plug on the back of the control switch panel. The control switch panel is on the top of the armrest on the door panel.

  • Unfasten all the screws on the interior door panel with a screwdriver and lift the door panel off the interior doorframe. Detach the service hole cover from the doorframe, and unhook the two glass channel mounting bolts with a nut driver.

  • Lift the glass window up and out of the doorframe by hand. Detach the window regulator mounting bolts with a socket wrench, and take the regulator and window motor assembly out of the Toyota Camry door panel.
