How to Locate the Oil Drain Plug in a Chevrolet Colorado

You should change the oil on your Chevy Colorado every 3,000 miles to ensure you maintain fresh engine lubricant at all times. Changing the oil regularly is the single most important routine maintenance you perform on your truck. Without fresh oil, the engine would stop running and it would cost you thousands to repair it. To change the oil, you must first locate the oil drain plug.

Things You'll Need

  • Ramps
  • Drive the Colorado onto a set of ramps to raise the front of the truck off the ground. Secure the parking brake for safety.

  • Position yourself under the Colorado with your feet protruding from the front of the truck and your head centered under the radiator fan.

  • Locate the oil pan bolted to the bottom of the engine block. The drain plug is located on the bottom of the oil pan towards the back. It is the only bolt on the bottom of the oil pan.
