How to Replace Dashboard Lights in a Mazda 626

As with any light on your Mazda 626, the dashboard lights eventually burn out over time. Replacing the dashboard lights on your 626 is fairly simple and only requires you to access the instrument panel by removing a few screws. The tools required are a Phillips screwdriver and a replacement 161-type bulb, which can be found at most automotive stores. The light replacement process takes approximately 10 minutes.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Replacement bulb
  • Turn off the engine, and remove the keys from the ignition.

  • Remove the two screws below the plastic trim above the instrument panel. Carefully pry out the bottom edge of the trim with a screwdriver.

  • Remove the four screws that secure the light cluster. Reach behind the instrument panel, and unplug the three electrical connectors at the rear of the cluster. Remove the light cluster from the vehicle.

  • Pull the burned-out bulb from the light cluster, and replace it with a new bulb. Use a 161-type bulb to replace the bulb.

  • Reattach the three electrical connectors to the instrument cluster, and place it back into the vehicle. Reinstall the four screws to secure the cluster to the vehicle, and reattach the plastic trim. Secure the trim by reinstalling the two screws.
