The Location of the Neutral Safety Switch on a 1999 Saturn Sl2

The neutral safety switch signals the computer which gear has been selected. This allows certain functions to be prohibited, such as starting the car while the transmission is drive or reverse. It also signals the car to perform specific functions when a certain gear is selected, such as turning on the reverse lights when reverse is selected. The neutral safety switch on a 1999 Saturn SL2 can be easily located after gaining visible access to the transmission.

  • Place a work light on the top of the engine compartment to illuminate the engine components.

  • Locate the transmission, which is directly under the air intake duct, attached to the engine on the driver side of the vehicle.
