If the spray function on your Buick Regal's wipers is not functioning, your windshield washer pump may require replacement. The pump is the motor that forces the liquid washer fluid onto the Regal's windshield. When the pump stops working, the fluid can no longer reach the glass to wipe it clear. This can result in dangerous driving conditions due to reduced visibility of the road. In 2010, a new pump cost $15 to $25 dollars. It's a small price to pay to keep your car safe and working properly. Replacing the Regal's washer pump isn't simple, but it's not terribly challenging, either.
Park the car on level ground and wait at least 30 minutes for the engine to cool if the engine is warm. Open the hood of the Buick Regal by pulling the hood-release lever underneath the steering panel in the passenger cabin, then releasing the latch at the front of the hood.
Locate the washer fluid tank, which is situated behind the radiator on the driver side. This is a clear tank with a twist-off cap. Place a pan below the reservoir underneath the car to catch draining washer fluid.
Use a 10mm socket wrench to remove the bolts that surround the tank, holding it in place. Reach to the bottom of the tank and unclip the power cable. Use a clamp release tool to remove the clamp around the intake hose running to the washer pump. Take the hose out of the pump. Wait until the fluid drains completely from the tank.
Pull the washer fluid reservoir out of the engine. Find the washer pump (a small black tube) attached to the bottom of the tank. Pull out the pump. Use a flat-head screwdriver to remove the rubber grommet holding it in the tank.
Place a new rubber grommet in the tank. Spray the inside of it with lubricant. Push the new washer pump into place.
Put the washer fluid reservoir back into the engine cavity. Reattach the power cable and the intake hose to the pump. Fasten the tank in place with the bolts.
Unscrew the cap and pour in washer fluid to the "MAX" line. Close the hood.
