How to Remove the Dome Light Cover on a 1999 Toyota Camry

Removing the lens from the room light or dome light in your 1999 Toyota Camry is the first step in changing the bulb in the light assembly. The lens is a clear plastic lens that snaps in place over the light bulb inside the assembly. The light can be set to come on with the opening of the doors or turned off with a switch on the light. If you are removing the bulb as well as the lens, set the switch on the light to off so the bulb does not heat up while you are entering the car to remove the lens.

Things You'll Need

  • Small flat screwdriver
  • Locate the switch on the dome light assembly; it is marked "On -- OFF -- Door." Directly opposite the switch is a slot in the dome light lens, between the lens and the trim.

  • Insert a small flat screwdriver into the slot between the lens and the trim and apply pressure, prying in on the lens. Carefully pry the lens down as you pry in to release the tab on the lens.

  • Pull the lens down on the side you loosened, then pull the two tabs along the opposite edge out of the trim or light assembly. Set the lens aside for now.
