How to Remove the Front Seats From a 1995 BMW 325i

Removing the seats from a 1995 BMW 325i is a fairly simple task involving only a few tools. It may be necessary to remove one or both seats as part of many interior repairs and modifications performed on a 1995 BMW 325i, so it is a good repair skill to know. While BMW installed several types of power seats in 1995 BMW 325i cars, the procedure for removal is the same for all.

Things You'll Need

  • Small flat-head screwdriver
  • 16-mm metric socket
  • Socket wrench
  • Towel or blanket
  • Move the seat as far forward as possible and as high as possible using the car's power seat controls.

  • Locate the seat rails under the seat in the back seat of the car. The seat rails connect the seat to the floor of the car. Locate the two 16-mm bolts at the rear tip of the seat rails. Loosen and remove the two seat mounting bolts using the 16-mm socket and socket wrench.

  • Disconnect the car's negative cable from the battery. This prevents power from flowing through the car's wiring. It's a safety measure whenever working on electrical components.

  • Locate the front end of the seat rails where they protrude from under the front of the seat into the front floor area. Locate the two seat mounting nuts at the forward tip of the seat rails.

  • Pry the plastic caps from the two front seat mounting nuts with a flat-head screwdriver. Loosen and remove the two front seat mounting nuts using the 16-mm socket and socket wrench. The seat is now detached from the car expect for wiring connections.

  • Tilt the top of the seat rearward to provide access to the wiring harness connectors underneath the seat.

  • Disconnect the wiring harness connectors by grasping the male and female halves and pulling in opposite directions.

  • Wrap a towel or blanket around the metal seat rails to protect the car's door panels and painted surfaces. Lift the seat from the car.

  • Locate the automatic front seat belt tensioner activation/deactivation screw on the outside edge of the seat once the seat is out of the car. Look for a screw next to a green dot. Disarm the tensioner by turning the screw clockwise using the screwdriver until the display changes from green to red.
