How to Open a Key Fob on an Audi

Once the car key was simply a piece of metal used to start the car. But today key fobs are highly designed accessories that car companies such as Audi engineer to enhance the driver's experience. Because a contemporary Audi key fob is also a remote control, it needs occasional maintenance, such as changing the battery. Although Audi recommends that you bring the fob to an authorized Audi dealer for maintenance, you can change the fob's battery yourself. The first step in key fob maintenance is to open the key fob.

Things You'll Need

  • Flat-head screwdriver
  • Extend the key from the plastic key fob by pressing the chrome button on the corner of the fob.

  • Examine the key fob. Inside the key indentation in the fob (where the key rests when it is not extended). you should see a thin crack. This crack is where the two halves of the plastic fob cover come together. This crack should extend completely around the circumference of the key fob and should run parallel to the fob buttons.

  • Wedge a small flat-head screwdriver into the crack and use the screwdriver to pry the fob apart.
