How to Pull a Dent in a Ford F-150

When you want to pull a dent in a Ford F-150, there are several ways to do so. Each way is different and will depend on the severity of the dent or what type of tools are available for use. The location of the dent will also determine which method can and cannot be used, whether the dent can be accessed from the back or must be pulled from the front. Each of these situations will determine the method and technique used when pulling a dent in a Ford F-150.

Things You'll Need

  • Mechanical dent puller
  • Air pressure dent puller with air compressor
  • Spray bottle
  • Shop rag
  • Rubber mallet
  • Short length of 2x4
  • Remove small dents with a commercially available mechanical dent puller. An adhesive and suction cups are used to literally "pop" the dent back out.

  • Pull larger dents with a pressurized air puller. Spray the dent with water in a spray bottle and wipe the area with a rag. Attach an air compressor hose to the dent puller then position the puller's suction cup over the top of the dent. Turn the compressor on and allow pressure to build for maximum suction. Pull on the handles of the dent puller in short little strokes to remove the dent.

  • Hammer out deep dents by accessing the backside of the dent. Place a short piece of 2x4 against the rear of the dent then use a rubber mallet to pound the dent out by striking the top of the 2x4. Hammer the backside of the dent firmly, working your way around the sides and into the center to make the dent as even as possible.
