How to Replace Supercharger Oil

Replacing the oil on a supercharger is a simple and straightforward process that should take no longer than 30 minutes to complete. A supercharger provides increased performance (both horsepower and acceleration) to a vehicle and has a lifetime of approximately 100,000 miles. Because the supercharger works at higher than normal speeds, it is necessary to change the oil every 2,000 miles. While changing the oil may sound difficult, it is actually quite simple.

Things You'll Need

  • Wrench
  • Supercharger oil
  • Sealant
  • Rag
  • Remove the supercharger from the engine by loosening and removing the screws that hold it in place using a wrench. Remove the supercharger carefully to ensure that any remaining oil that is still in the supercharger does not spill.

  • Remove the bolts around the edge of the nose drive and tap it lightly with the wrench to knock it out of place. Pull out the nose drive and use a rag to clean the sealing surface so that the new sealant will adhere properly. Apply the sealant around the edge of the nose drive and put it back into place.

  • Pour the new oil into the oil compartment and put the plug in place so that the new oil does not spill. Reattach the supercharger to the engine using the reverse process of removal. Start the vehicle to ensure that the parts were reinstalled properly and that the "Service Engine Soon" light does not illuminate. If that button appears on the dashboard, the oil was not installed properly according to the aforementioned instructions.
