The Chevrolet Avalanche is equipped with a fixed-mast antenna (passenger side). These antennas are far from technologically advanced and are the simplest type to remove and replace. Your antenna connects to an extension, which eventually connects to the rear of your radio. The process is the same for all Avalanche models built between 2002 and 2006; the second-generation Avalanche does not use a fixed-mast antenna; visit a dealer or service professional for installation.
Unhook the negative (--) battery cable. Loosen the nut around the cable, then wiggle the cable until it pulls free. This prevents electrical shock.
Remove the antenna mast. You can probably unscrew the mast with your hand, but keep a pair of pliers handy in case your need them.
Remove the antenna base. Position your pliers over the top of the base; turn it counterclockwise to remove it. If you plan on reusing the base, wrap it with a small cloth before removing it with the pliers.
Pull the antenna base through the mounting hole, until you reach the connection. Unplug the antenna base cable from the connection. Make sure the connection does not "fall" back into the mounting hole.
Connect the new antenna base cable to the connection. Feed the cable through the mounting hole, then tighten the base.
Install the antenna mast. Most masts simply screw on (clockwise); however, if your new antenna specifies a different method, follow it closely.
