How to Replace the Signal Lamps in a Jeep

Replacing the existing light bulbs in your Jeep is a job that involves both vehicle safety and maintenance. Signal bulbs are important to your vehicle because they allow other drivers to know your intentions. Changing the signal bulbs can be done by hand tools and only takes about 10 minutes to complete the installation. Upgrading your bulbs to more efficient bulbs is a good idea since you're changing them out anyway. Jeep signal bulbs are enclosed within the headlight housing and behind a pair of lenses, one amber and one clear.

Things You'll Need

  • Torx head screwdriver
  • Light bulb
  • Use the Torx head screwdriver and remove the two screws that are holding the lens to the body of the Jeep. Remove the two screws on the side marker lens. One screw will be on top and the other on the bottom of the housing. The screw on the bottom is between the two lenses. Gently pull them apart to get the screwdriver in position.

  • Remove the two screws holding on the turn signal lens.

  • Pull the lens housing out away from the body. It might take some effort because there is a clip that holds the lens in place.

  • Remove the signal socket from the marker housing by twisting it counter clockwise. The bulb should now be exposed and able to be pulled out of the socket. Pull the bulb out be hand.

  • Install the new bulb into the socket. Do not install the bulb with greasy or oily fingers. Oil can significantly shorten the life of the bulb and you will be repeating this process in the near future.

  • Reinsert the socket into the marker housing and twist it securely in place. Slide the marker housing back into the body of the Jeep and replace the two screws.
