How to Buy Cheaper Gas

As gas prices go up there are several ways to go about finding cheaper gas and save some money. You do not have to pay the highest price all the time.

Things You'll Need

  • Internet access
  • Car
  • Brain - you need to think about what you are doing
  • Google your city for "[city] gas prices". For example "Seattle gas prices". Many cities have websites setup for people to report current gas prices.

  • Get your gas at cash/debit gas stations like Arco. However, always pay cash as many cash/debit gas stations charge a debit card fee.

  • If you have a Costo card then get your gas at Costo as they are usually cheaper.

  • Get a free Safeway card if you have a Safeway gas station next where you are as they are usually cheaper and you sometimes get coupons to use.

  • Get a gas credit card from Shell, Chevron, etc as they cut some cost of gas. Make sure you do pay your balance every month and watch for promotion end dates as the initial large gas saving offer only lasts for couple of months.

  • Drive on lowest octane (87). Most cars can handle it even if premium is recommended.
