Before replacing the heater blower motor in your Ford Ranger, check it first to see if it has actually failed or if lack of power alone is to blame. Most of the time, the heater blower resister is the problem. The resister controls the speed of the motor; if it overheats and fails, the blower motor won't work. Of course, the blower motor does occasionally fail on its own and must be replaced. The blower motor on your Ranger is under the hood on the passenger side of the firewall.
Remove the bolts securing the fan motor's speed control to the firewall, using the ¼-inch drive socket. Move the speed control aside to gain access to the blower motor.
Disconnect the electrical connector from the blower motor by pulling the connector out of the socket. Remove the bolts around the circumference of the blower motor securing it to the firewall, using the ¼-inch drive socket. Pull the blower motor out of the firewall.
Remove the nut on the motor shaft holding the fan, using the ¼-inch socket. Pull the fan off the motor shaft and place it on the new blower motor.
Screw the nut on the end of the shaft, using the same socket to tighten. Reinstall the blower motor in reverse order of removal.
