How to Remove the Trailblazer Steering Column Shroud

The steering column shroud on a Chevy Trailblazer protects the TrailBlazer's internal wiring that runs on the outside of the column. The shroud is held in place with retaining clips. Removing the shroud will give you access to the tilt control, cruise control and turn signal switch, if you need to replace these components.

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver
  • Grab the left side of the shroud and pull down. Do not try to completely remove the shroud. You should hear one snap (one retaining clip being removed).

  • Pull down on the right side of the shroud. Again, you should hear one snap as the retaining clip comes off.

  • Pull the trim cover to the right, starting on the left side of the shroud. This will remove the four remaining retaining clips on the TrailBlazer's column shroud.

  • Check for two retaining screws on the bottom of the shroud. Some model years use two screws on the bottom of the shroud to help hold the shroud in place. If your TrailBlazer has these screws, remove them to remove the shroud.
