The sway bar on a Chrysler (also known as an anti-sway bar) connects one side of the same axle (front or rear) to the other side to add torsion and prevent rollovers on hard turns. While all Chryslers have a front sway bar, some have rear sway bars as well. Having to replace them is quite rare. Sway bar bushings and sway bar end links or often common repairs performed on or to the sway bar, but having to replace the sway bar itself only occurs if some undercarriage damage has compromised the sway bar by bending it or breaking it.
Drive the front of the Chrysler up onto the car ramps and apply the parking brake. Place a wheel chock behind one of the rear tires.
Put on the safety glasses, gather the tools and creeper, and crawl under the front of the Chrysler.
Locate one (left or right) side of the sway bar to sway bar link connection and remove the bottom of the sway bar link from the sway bar.
Follow the sway bar to the first sway bar bushing bracket on the undercarriage of the Chrysler near the firewall. Remove the bolt or bolts of the bracket with a ratchet and a socket. On some Chryslers (like a Town & Country), you may have to remove a brace/bracket to access the driver's side sway bar bushing bracket.
Move over to the opposite sway bar link to sway bar connection and remove that and then locate and remove the last sway bar bushing bracket. Remove the sway bar.
Crawl out from underneath the Chrysler to compare the old sway bar to the new one. Place the new sway bar bushings onto the new sway bar in the same manner the old ones are affixed to the old sway bar. Place the bushings onto the sway bar by first prying the slot on the bushing open and pushing it convincingly onto the sway bar.
Crawl back underneath the Chrysler and install the new sway bar. Start by securing both sway bar bushing brackets first to hold the sway bar in place and then attach each sway bar link to sway bar connection. Gather the tools and crawl out when finished. Remove the wheel chock, release the parking brake, and back the Chrysler off of the ramps.
