The rear-view mirrors on your automobile are a necessity for safe driving, allowing you to see what's next to you before you make a lane change. Your mirrors may also help you avoid a collision by giving you advance warning of possible danger from behind. Unfortunately, the mirrors on your automobile are not very impact-resistant because they're made of glass. Mirror glass is available from your dealer or local auto-parts store and can be replaced in a few minutes.
Don a pair of heavy gloves to keep your hands from getting cut on pieces of broken glass. Remove any remaining pieces of broken glass from the mirror frame by prying them out with a flat-blade screwdriver.
Scrape any mirror adhesive from the mirror mounting surface with the flat-blade screwdriver. Wipe the area clean with a clean rag soaked in rubbing alcohol.
Apply two generous beads of clear silicone adhesive from a squeeze tube (available from auto-parts stores) to the back of the new mirror glass. Don't get too close to the edge of the glass, or excess silicone may squeeze out when the mirror is applied to the mirror frame.
Press the mirror glass into the mirror frame. Slide the glass slightly to get it into the right position, if necessary. Place a strip of masking tape over the mirror glass to hold it into place until the adhesive cures (usually about 24 hours).
Remove the masking tape from the mirror once the adhesive has cured.
