How to Replace the PCV Valve in a Saturn Ion

Within your vehicle, the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve controls the amount of pressure that builds up in the engine. Without proper airflow through the compartments of your engine, your car will not run efficiently. If you notice your engines seems to run rough while idling, you may need to replace the PCV valve.

  • Locate the PCV valve on your Saturn Ion. You'll find the valve on top of the cam cover with a hose attached to it. The hose hooks into the intake manifold of your engine.

  • Take out the PCV valve to inspect the part for functionality. To remove, detach the hose and pull the valve towards you. It should easily slide out of the cover. If you shake it and hear a rattling sound, then the valve is still working properly. If you do not hear a sound, proceed with the repair.

  • Buy the replacement PCV valve for your Saturn Ion. To get an OEM standard PCV valve, place an order through Saturn Parts Wholesale's website. You can find all years and engine types available on this site.

  • Install the new PCV valve in your Saturn Ion by pushing the longer end of the valve into the opening where the old PCV valve was held. Once you feel it snap into place, you can attach the other end to the hose.
