Within your vehicle, the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve controls the amount of pressure that builds up in the engine. Locate the PCV valve on your Saturn Ion. You'll find the valve on top of the cam cover with a hose attached to it. The hose hooks into the intake manifold of your engine.
Take out the PCV valve to inspect the part for functionality. To remove, detach the hose and pull the valve towards you. It should easily slide out of the cover. If you shake it and hear a rattling sound, then the valve is still working properly. If you do not hear a sound, proceed with the repair.
