Does a 2000 Daewoo Nubira Have a Rack & Pinion Steering?

The Daewoo Nubira's name meant "crisscross" in Korean. The idea was that the car would be so enthusiastically embraced by consumers that its presence would "crisscross" the world. As least as far as the U.S. market was concerned, Daewoo's optimistic predictions for the Nubira did not pan out.

The compact sedan and wagon were sold stateside from 1999 until 2002. A lack of dealers, problems with name recognition, and stiff competition from established compacts like the Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, and Hyundai Elantra made the Nubira a tough sell.

The Nubira's Steering System

  • The Nubira's up-to-date chassis was consistent with most of its compact contemporaries. It featured rack and pinion steering, rather than an old-fashioned recirculating-ball setup.

Today, finding replacement parts for the Nubira, including steering assembly components, can be a bit of a challenge. This is due mostly to the fact that Daewoo no longer does business in the U.S. and that existing used models, including the Nubira, are relatively rare. Several larger online parts retailers, however, including Rock Auto, JC Whitney and Auto Parts Warehouse, continue to support Daewoo owners in the U.S.
