How to Install Amp Wires in a Toyota Camry

Your newly purchased amplifier will boost both the volume and presence of your music. Installing the amplifier yourself saves money, but only if you do so correctly. Amplifier wiring kits contain the cables and connectors necessary to install your new device properly. You may then wire the amplifier in your Toyota Camry on your own.

Things You'll Need

  • Amplifier
  • Amplifier wiring kit
  • Speaker wire
  • Pick out a cool, ventilated, stable spot in the Toyota Camry for your amplifier, such as a trunk or under a seat.

  • Open the trunk to access your battery. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. This deactivates the battery so that you do not accidentally shock yourself or send a current through the wires prematurely.

  • Run the main power cable included in your amplifier wiring kit's main power cable from the battery to the amplifier's location. Run the cable through the firewall separating your engine from the inside of your Toyota Camry. Connect the power cable ring latch to the positive battery post. Connect more power cable to this starter power cable as needed. Disconnect the fuse from its holder before connecting this wire.

  • Open the Camry's nearest door and remove its trim panel. Run more power cable through the exposed cavity and into your Camry, under the carpet, as needed.

  • Remove your stereo receiver from the dashboard. Insert the amplifier's color-coded RCA signal cables into the like-colored ports on the stereo receiver. Run the signal cables under the trim panels on the opposite side of your Camry, if possible. Doing so avoids interference and noise.

  • Run the stereo turn-on lead down the same path as the RCA signal cables. Connect the turn-on lead to its labeled port on the amplifier with a screw.

  • Wrap the Camry speaker's wire around the speaker signal ports on your amplifier. Wrap the speaker wire around the signal input ports on your speakers. Screw all of these wires into place.

  • Replace all of the trim and the fuse you removed from the fuse holder on your power cable in Step 3. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
