How to Install a B&M Line Lock Kit

Line lock kits allow the front and rear brakes to operate independently of one another. For instance, a line lock kit can be used to help a sports car get off to a better start by allowing the rear wheels to spin while the front brakes are applied. Line lock kits are commonly referred to as launch control or brake control kits and consist of a single solenoid, which is installed in the brake system. Fortunately, B&M provides installation documentation with details of how to properly install the line lock.

Things You'll Need

  • Line lock kit
  • Steel brake line tubing
  • Line tube bender
  • 18-gauge wire
  • Soldering iron
  • Crimp-on connectors
  • Electrical tape
  • Locate the brake system's stock tube nut and measure its size with the tube nut gauge included with the line lock kit. The tube nut is located between the master brake cylinder and the brake lines that go to the front and rear brakes.

  • Consult the documentation that came with the vehicle to determine the type of brake system it is equipped with. Refer to the chart provided with the line lock kit to determine where the line lock solenoid should be positioned in the particular brake system. Regardless of its exact position in the system, the line from the master brake cylinder connects to the port labeled "In" on the solenoid while the lines to the front and rear brakes connect to the solenoid's "Out" port.

  • Use steel brake line tubing to reroute the existing brake lines to accommodate the solenoid. Ensure that the existing brake lines are not crushed while bending them for installation by using a brake line bender.

  • Choose a location in the vehicle's passenger compartment for the included push button switch. Select a location that is accessible to the driver.

  • Disconnect the vehicle's negative battery terminal and connect 18-gauge wire to one of the wires connected to the solenoid. Connect the other end of the wire to the push button switch included with the kit. Next, ground the remaining wire connected to the solenoid. Solder all of the connections or use crimp-on connectors. Protect all of the connections by wrapping them in electrical tape.

  • Connect the included fuze holder to a switched 12-volt power source with 18-gauge wire. Next, connect the remaining wire from the push button switch to the fuzed switched ignition wire. Ensure that all of the connections are secure and covered with electrical tape.

  • Reconnect the vehicle's battery and press the installed push button switch to confirm that the line lock system is installed correctly.
