How to Fasten a Key Ring to a Broken Remote Starter

Remote starters are used from your key chain to wirelessly control your vehicle's features. These remotes allow you to lock and unlock your doors, activate your panic alarm, pop your trunk release and even activate your auto starter, if so equipped. If the loop on your car remote has broken, you can still fasten your key to the remote so that you can keep the combination in your pocket for easy use.

  • Purchase a small metal loop the size of your remote starter loop. You can do this from a hardware store or find a specialized loop used for the specific purpose.

  • Make a cloth or leather pouch for your remote. You can do this by folding a piece of leather or cloth around your remote, cutting it to the remote size and then sewing the edges and bottom.

  • Punch a hole in the top of your pouch and glue the metal loop over the hole. You can then fasten your key ring through the loop and the fabric, ready for use on your key chain. You can either feel the buttons to use the remote or cut a hole in the pouch to expose the buttons on the remote.
