My Buick Regal Ignition Key Won't Turn

Ignition keys are almost universally used to start most types of cars, and the Buick Regal is no different. While most owners will not encounter any problems with their ignition system, it is possible that your key will get stuck in one position and refuse to turn. If this happens, there may be a simple cause. You can try a few troubleshooting methods to end the problem and get your ignition cylinder working again.

Things You'll Need

  • Wire
  • Push the gear shifter into the "Park" position for Regals with automatic transmissions, which are the vast majority of the Regals. Make sure the car is all the way in "Park," or you will not be able to turn the key to start the car.

  • Remove the panels around the ignition cylinder to make sure no extraneous pieces are preventing the cylinder from turning.

  • Turn the steering wheel hard to both the left and the right to be sure that the wheels are not stuck, which prevent you from starting the car.

  • Place the parking brake on to make sure the wheels are not active, which may also stop the ignition from activating.

  • Stick a wire into the ignition slot to make sure that there is nothing there that is stopping the key from being inserted completely.
