The Ford F-250 is a heavy-duty truck designed to haul big loads. As a result, the ride height of the rear of the vehicle sits higher than the front so that the truck is level when towing or carrying a heavy load. If you want to change the suspension so the truck height is balanced when empty, you can install a leveling kit which lifts the front to the same height as the rear. Installing one of these kits takes a few hours.
Park the F-250 on a level surface and apply the parking brake. Lift the front of the end using the jack and put jack stands under the frame and the front axle. Take off the front wheels using the tire wrench and set them aside.
Unbolt the upper shock mount from the frame with the 3/8-inch ratchet wrench and socket and an open-end wrench, then remove the lower shock mount from the axle using the ratchet and open-end wrenches. Pull the shock absorber out of the suspension. Unbolt the sway bar links from both sides of the axle, and the brake line mount from the spring mount using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket.
Lift the axle off of the jack stands using the jack and set the jack stands to their lowest point. Pull the coil springs out of the front suspension. Install the spacer from the leveling kit onto the top of the stock coil spring, then reinstall the spring into the front suspension. Install the new shocks from the kit with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket and an open-end wrench.
Reinstall the brake line bracket and the sway bar end links with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Reinstall the front wheels with the tire wrench. Lower the F-250 off of the jack stands using the jack.
