How to Install a Chevy Leveling Kit

A Chevrolet pickup comes from the factory with a slight rake, where the rear of the truck sits higher than the front. This is for load-leveling purposes, but not everyone likes that look. To fix the problem, you can install a load-leveling kit on the front end to raise it up and level it out with the rear of the truck. Fortunately, this is not difficult to do, and you can install a Chevy leveling kit in about an hour.

Things You'll Need

  • Leveling kit
  • Jack
  • Jack stands
  • Tire iron
  • 3/8-inch ratchet and socket set
  • Apply the parking brake on the Chevrolet and lift the front of the truck using a jack. Set jack stands underneath the frame and then take off the front wheels with the tire iron.

  • Unbolt the bottom of the strut from the lower control arm with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Push down the lower control arm and install the U-shaped leveling kit underneath the bottom of the strut so that the bottom of the U sits toward the frame, and the holes in the leveling kit line up with the mounting holes on both the lower control arm and the strut.

  • Bolt the leveling kit and factory strut into the lower control arm with the bolts provided with the kit and the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Reinstall the front wheels with the tire iron, then lower the truck off of the jack stands using the jack.
