How to Install a Vinyl Sticker on a Car Window

Many car owners choose to adorn cars with vinyl stickers because the stickers are simple to install and easy to remove. Before you install a vinyl sticker on a car window, prepare the surface of the window carefully to ensure it is free of dirt and chemicals. A properly prepared window surface will hold the vinyl decal firmly until you are ready to remove it.

Things You'll Need

  • Glass cleaner (without ammonia)
  • Paper towels
  • Ruler
  • Clean the glass surface thoroughly before the application of the stciker. Spray the surface with the glass cleaner and wipe the entire glass area well with the paper towels to dry the glass completely.

  • Remove the paper layer on the underside of the vinyl sticker carefully. As you handle the vinyl sticker, hold it by the outer edge of the remaining paper layer.

  • Position the vinyl sticker where you want it on the glass. Before you actually place it onto the glass, ensure you have it in the exact spot you want it. Use a ruler to find the center of the glass, if necessary.

  • Lower the vinyl sticker down onto the glass carefully in the desired location. Slide your hands firmly over the sticker from the center of the sticker to the outer edges to make the sticker smooth and remove any air bubbles trapped beneath the sticker. Work until the sticker is completely flat.

  • Peel back a corner of the remaining paper from the top of the sticker and remove this paper layer from over the sticker to finish installing the vinyl sticker on the car window.
