How to Make a Yamaha Warrior Faster

The Yamaha Warrior, an ATV, offers a compromise between speed and handling. When you increase the speed of your ATV, you make it more difficult to drive over bumpy terrain. To keep your rides safe, replace current parts of the ATV with performance parts, instead of adding an engine with more power. In most cases, you can slightly increase the speed and acceleration of your ATV with simple changes. Expect an increase in top speed of about 5 mph.

Things You'll Need

  • Wrench
  • Performance tires
  • Performance air filter
  • Tire iron
  • Muffler packing material
  • Drill
  • Drive the Warrior to a safe, level location and turn it off. Allow the engine to cool for 1 to 2 hours.

  • Replace your tires with racing tires. These tires are designed for speed and relatively level terrain, such as a racing course. If you intend to ride your ATV over rocky terrain, purchase standard performance tires. Loosen the nuts of the tires using a tire iron and slide the old tire off. Slide the new tire on to the ATV and secure it using the tire iron.

  • Replace your air filter with a performance air filter. Remove the air filter using a wrench and discard it. Push a new filter into place and secure it using a wrench.

  • Change the front sprocket. Remove the nut from the rear brake using a wrench. Loosen the chain adjustment and pry the chain off the Warrior. Pull the front sprocket off the vehicle and discard it. Put a new sprocket in its place. Work the chain back onto the gears, tighten the chain adjustment and replace the nut.

  • Repack the muffler. Remove the muffler and place it on a flat surface. Remove the rivets that hold the outer core in place using a drill. Tap the top of the muffler to push the inner core from the muffler. Remove the packing material inside the inner core and replace it with fresh material. Slide the inner core back into the outer core and replace the rivets. Slide the muffler back into place in your ATV.
