Things You'll Need

  • Jumper cables
  • Wire brush
  • Inspect all the battery cables on your GMC Yukon XL. You will want to check the battery cables not only where they connect to the battery, but follow them back to where they connect to the Yukon’s starter motor and to the solenoid. Look on these connections for any sort of corrosion. Clean the corrosion off of the connections using a wire brush.

  • Insert the Yukon’s key into the ignition and turn it and look to see if any lights come on, or if the radio is playing. If they do not come on, then the battery in your Yukon may be dead.

  • Turn the Yukon’s key the rest of the way to start the car, and listen for any noises. If you hear a clicking noise coming from the engine compartment, then you battery may have enough power, but the Yukon’s starter motor is not work working properly. In this case you will likely need to call a tow truck to take your Yukon in to have the starter replaced.
