The G6 is a mid-sized car manufactured by General Motors sold under the Pontiac name brand. The G6 has different transaxles and engine sizes available. You can choose from a four-speed or six-speed automatic transaxle and 3.5L, 3.6L or 3.9L V6 engine. The transaxle is lubricated using transmission or transaxle fluid. The fluid works to ensure the gears shift easily and smoothly. Low fluid levels can cause damage to the transaxle and surrounding components so it's important to check the levels regularly.
Drive the G6 for about five minutes. It's best to check the transaxle fluid level when the fluid is at operating temperature. Checking the fluid once cooled, can give an inaccurate reading. Park the Pontiac on a level surface and turn the engine off.
Open the hood and locate the automatic transaxle dipstick. The dipstick goes down into the reservoir. The automatic transaxle dipstick is found on the front of the transmission and is a yellow colored ring.
Remove the dipstick. Pull the dipstick by the ring until it comes out of the reservoir. Clean the dipstick with a clean rag. Replace the dipstick into the reservoir until it's fully seated. Remove once again. Read the measurement on the dipstick. An acceptable fluid range would fall between the "Full" and "Add" markings on the dipstick. If the fluid level falls below the "add" line, add automatic transaxle fluid.
Add automatic transaxle fluid. Insert a funnel into the dipstick opening. Pour a small amount of DEXRON automatic transaxle fluid into the reservoir. Repeat the steps to check the fluid level. Repeat these steps until the fluid level reads within the acceptable range.
