How to Remove the Interior Molding From My Ford Escape

The Ford Escape made its debut in 2000 as a cheaper and more compact version of the Ford Explorer. You can remove the interior molding from your Ford Escape using a special trim removal tool that can be purchased at any auto parts store. You need a few other inexpensive tools and supplies to get the job done and you need about a half hour of your time. The molding can be found on the doors and it is held in place in the interior of the door with pins.

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver
  • Trim removal tool
  • Pliers
  • Unscrew the screws on the inside door handles and arm rests on all four doors. Remove the door handle and arm rest and set aside.

  • Insert the toothed edge of the trim removal tool into the top of the door panel and pry it off. The panel won't come off all the way but it will become dislodged somewhat from the door frame.

  • Put your arm between the panel and the door and squeeze the tabs on the clips using pliers. Move the clip outward so that it is no longer attached to the panel.

  • Pull off the panel and remove the molding around the outer edges of the doors.
