How to Change a Honda Del Sol Headlight

The Honda Del Sol was a small coupe sold by Honda. It was discontinued after the 1997 model year. The Del Sol, like most vehicles, uses halogen headlights. In the Del Sol, they are fairly simple to replace because you don't have to remove the headlight assembly to access them. Halogen bulbs are sensitive to contaminants, so don't touch the glass on the new bulb. Hold them by their base.

Things You'll Need

  • HB2 headlight bulbs
  • Open the Del Sol's hood. If you are replacing the driver's side headlight, lift the air intake hose up and out of the way to create enough working space for you to replace the headlight.

  • Lift the power steering fluid reservoir out of its holder if you are replacing the headlight on the passenger's side. Move it to the side to create enough room.

  • View the back of the headlight assembly. You'll see a rubber cover with an electrical connection plugged in the middle of it. Unplug the electrical connection.

  • Pull the tab on the bottom of the rubber cover to remove it. You'll see the wire that holds the headlight in place.

  • Push the headlight retaining wire down, then pull it back to free the headlight bulb. Pull the bulb straight back.

  • Insert the new bulb into the hole. The small tab on the bulb base should be facing down; the large tab should be facing up.

  • Pivot the retaining wire back into its mount to secure the bulb. Push the rubber cover back onto it. Plug the electrical connection back in.

  • Move the air intake hose back into its position, or set the power steering fluid reservoir back in its holder, depending on which headlight you replaced.
