How to Remove Condensation from a Lexus SC400 Headlight

The SC400 is a luxury coupe manufactured and sold by Lexus. The headlights within the SC400 are used to provide increased visibility by lighting up the road and its surroundings. Condensation may appear within the headlight unit over time and thus decrease the headlights performance. It's important to dry out the headlight to ensure proper visibility and safe driving.

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver
  • Cardboard
  • Baking sheet
  • Oven
  • Potholders
  • Open the hood of the SC400. Locate the headlight unit. You will see four screws around the circumference of the headlight. These screws secure the light fixture in place.

  • Remove the screws using the appropriate screwdriver. Place the screws in a safe spot, as they will be needed to reinstall the headlight. Unplug the electrical connector from the back of the headlight. Remove the light bulb from the headlight. Twist and gently push the bulb in to release it while you pull the bulb out of the unit. Slide the headlight out of the vehicle. Repeat this process for the opposite headlight.

  • Cut a piece of cardboard to roughly the same size as the baking sheet. Submerge the cardboard in water and then align it on the baking sheet.

  • Place the headlight units onto the cardboard. Slide the baking sheet into the oven. Turn the oven to 250 degrees. Do not preheat the oven, as it should be cold when placing the headlight units in to ensure they do not crack.

  • Allow the condensation within the headlight to evaporate while in the oven. This process should take about three minutes. Once the condensation is visibly gone, use potholders and slide the baking sheet out of the oven. Place the baking sheet on a cooling rack or potholder.

  • Replace the headlight bulbs. Align the bulb into the unit, push down and twist. The bulb will lock into place.

  • Reinstall the headlight units into the SC400. Slide each unit into the vehicle. Once aligned, replace each screw to secure the headlight into the Lexus. Plug the electrical connectors into the back of each headlight. Close the hood of the vehicle.
