Location of a 2000 Cadillac Starter

The 2000 Cadillac models all use similar starters. These starters work like most automotive starters. The starter turns a gear which causes the engine to start. If your car is currently suffering from starter or engine problems, you may want to examine it so that you can determine if it requires repair or replacement. To examine the starter, you must first locate it. As of December 2010, these starters cost around $70 to $100.

Things You'll Need

  • Ramps
  • Wheel blocks
  • Adjustable wrench
  • Place a set of front-end ramps on the ground, spaced the approximate distance of your wheels.

  • Drive your Cadillac onto these ramps, and turn the car off. Pull the parking brake up to keep the car from rolling. Place wheel blocks around the rear wheels.

  • Pop the hood of the engine.

  • Remove the negative ("-") cable from the battery. Place the wrench on the nut of the connector, and turn it counterclockwise to loosen it. Remove the nut, and remove the cable.

  • Examine the bottom of the engine to locate the starter. It is located on the driver's side, between the transmission cross member and the transmission. It is a black cylinder attached to a smaller black cylinder, which is the solenoid.
