How to Change the Battery in a Town & Country

The Chrysler Town & Country is equipped with a maintenance-free battery that does not need to be maintained or have water added to it. Over time, the battery will wear out and will need to be replaced. The battery is located in the engine compartment of the Town & Country. Replacing the battery when it starts to wear out can help prevent electrical-related breakdowns or other problems.

Things You'll Need

  • Adjustable wrench
  • New battery
  • Turn off the engine and remove the key from the ignition. Open the hood.

  • Twist off the nut holding the bar in place over the battery. The battery is located on the driver side of the engine compartment near the windshield.

  • Lift the retaining bar up and out of the way of the battery.

  • Loosen the bolt holding the battery cable to the negative terminal. Lift the cable away from the terminal.

  • Loosen the bolt holding the cable to the positive battery terminal. Lift the cable up and away from the battery.

  • Lift the battery straight up to remove it from the battery compartment.

  • Set the new battery into the battery compartment. Position the battery so the positive and negative terminals are in the same position as on the old battery.

  • Position the positive cable onto the positive battery terminal. Tighten the bolt that holds the cable in place.

  • Position the negative battery cable onto the negative terminal. Tighten the bolt to secure the cable in place.

  • Swing the retaining bar over the battery. Twist the nut that holds the bar in place until it is tight and the battery does not wiggle.
