How to Adjust 300M Special Headlights

The alignment of the headlight is important no matter what make or model of automobile you drive, and the Chrysler 300M's special headlights are no different. Adjusting headlights yourself requires you to take some basic measurements, test the direction of the lights and make any necessary adjustments. This job should be done once a year to ensure optimal alignment.

Things You'll Need

  • Masking tape
  • Ruler
  • Screwdriver
  • Have a partner sit in driver's seat to create a weight in the car that is similar to normal driving conditions. As little as a 20-pound fluctuation can affect the headlights' direction, so be aware of weight in the trunk or additional weight if you routinely transport passengers.

  • Park on a flat surface one foot in front of a garage door with at least 25 feet of room to back up.

  • Measure from the ground up to the center point of each headlight lens. Mark the center point of each beam with masking tape on the garage door in the shape of an X, and connect the center of each X with a piece of tape.

  • Back the car up 25 feet and turn on the lights. The driver's side beam should land a few inches to the right of its corresponding taped marker so the beam doesn't blind oncoming traffic. The passenger's beam should hit its mark directly, which means it's shining straight in front of the car. If the driver's spot lands higher, you'll have a blind spot in front of you while driving at night.

  • Locate the adjustment screws. The vertical control will be on the top center of the lens. The horizontal will be in the center of the inside edge. Use a screwdriver to adjust these screws until the light hits the desired target on the door.
