How to Remove a Eurovan Battery

The Eurovan is a full-sized van designed and manufactured by Volkswagen. The Eurovan has a short-nose front vehicle design. Due to the short hood and front, the vehicle components are often found under compartments or other components. Replacing and removing the battery in the Eurovan requires minimal tools but the battery is hidden under the electrical component box. It's important to know how to remove the battery in case of maintenance or replacement.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket wrench
  • Place the Eurovan in "Park" and turn the engine off. Allow the vehicle to cool for a half hour before removing the battery.

  • Open the hood of the Eurovan and locate the engine compartment. The battery is mounted under a black cover on the driver's side of the engine compartment. The compartment is directly to the right of the brake master cylinder and coolant tank.

  • Gently pull on the black plastic electrical compartment. The battery is mounted under this compartment. The box will come out easily, move the box to the side to access the battery mounted in a metal bracket.

  • Remove the single bolt securing the metal bracket in place using a socket wrench. Disconnect the negative cable first followed by the positive cable to disconnect the battery.

  • Lift the battery out of the Eurovan. Batteries can weigh up to 60 pounds, so lift carefully.
